Water Lantern Festival
Description:
- Choose a festival and present a campaign strategy for it.
- I chose the Water Lantern Festival, because I loved going there as a child. It is a family friendly festival filled with many events and activities. The main event for the festival includes writing a message or a design on the outside of a paper lantern and then lighting a candle on the inside then placing it onto the water. Once everyone has drifted away their lanterns, the scene becomes lit up has many lights are reflected upon the water. It is a memorable sight to see.
- My campaign strategy will include both graphics and media posts, so this festival is perfect as it is packed with full of fun and fond memories. My strategy is to create a new logo that looks like a lantern in the shape of Arkansas on top of the water to represent the lit lanterns that on sent out on the water. Using the logo, I created a 24 x 36 in poster, road side banner, lamp post banner, merchandise, and updated festival tickets. I also created social media posts for my campaign. This is to ensure a wide audience is reached.
Project Process:
- My process for creating this campaign was to start with doing my research on who created the festival and how/where it began. Then I created a mood board for the overall project as well as thumbnail sketches for my logo. Once the logo was finished, I began working towards the poster for my festival. After the poster was finished I created the banner, lamp post, and merchandise.
- Unfortunately, I had to go back and change the logo because the feel and look did not fit the festival theme. Through feedback and plenty of critique I was able to finally create the perfect logo by changing color palette and adding specific shapes.
- After creating the correct logo, I proceed to create the rest of the graphics for the festival. Once graphics were finished, I put all my designs on mock ups from FreePik to give the work a better look and feel.
- The designs below show my gradual process for design creation.
